Regarding the motions in linime, is it a state-by-state question whether or not these types of stipulations can be offered in front of the jury?  I attended a murder trial in Virginia in 1995 at which the defense offered to stipulate the chain of evidence witnesses (who were basically getting up in order to say yes, I took the paper bag from Officer 1, that’s my signature, and I put it in Locker B ) about the clothing of the victim; the prosecution did not agree.  But this was done in open court.
