Leon Uris may have been best known as a novelist but he played a crucial role in using his books to focus attention on the Holocaust and Israel in the late 1950s and early 1960. It turns out that he did not only write books; he sold them, too, as Kevin Roderick has revealed at his indispensable website, LA Observed.
It turns out that Uris did not only write books — he sold them, too. Roderick discovered that Uris opened a bookstore of his own on Ventura Blvd. in Sherman Oaks in the summer of 1960. In a play on his own literary success, Uris dubbed it the Exodus Book and Record Shop.
