It will be a pity to see you go. We will miss you here. I too had a stint in NY for a few years, taking a break from being in Israel, after being heavily involved in the protest movement against the Oslo process (do people even remember the early 90s when so many of us knew what is going on today was going to happen? But nobody would listen and the democratic process in Israel was trampled upon. Nothings changed!). In anycase, my 5 years in NY had me concentrating just on myself and my own happiness without thinking too much about the political/security situation in Israel. I must tell you that I had a blast. 5 years of fun just thinking about myself and not trying to save the Jewish people or the world. But after 5 years I got to realize how unhappy I was living in a society where people don’t spend enough time focusing on saving the Jewish people or the world and I knew it was time to return to Israel. Only in Israel do we feel a true connection to one another, even with all the animosity and the tension. Only in Israel can we hate each other for our political views but then be best friends and do guard duty together in the army or on miluim. Only in Israel do we Jews really have a chance to do anything to protect our future as a people. So, if you do go back to LA, I will miss you at the barricades of our struggle here in Israel. But I know you will be back and I look forward to meeting you for coffee at the cafe on Emek Refaim street to hear all about your acting career in Hollywood. Good luck and make us proud. Looking forward to your return. Your friend, Ish Katom
“And I fought for what I believed in…”
“I lost that fight, and the fight over Israel’s internal injustices and external enemies is far from over.”
It is nice how you feel so connected to the Jewish nation and Israel. You are personally affected emotionally by the wars and terrorist attacks. Of course, this personal connections is due, in part, to the fact that you (physically) lived there.
