VIDEO: Orit’s Adventures in Hollywood: Extra, extra—view all about it

Posted by  Orit Arfa

My initiation into Hollywood has begun—in downtown LA where I booked my first acting gig as an “extra” for a Fox TV pilot.

It was a 12-hour shoot, consisting mostly of walking up and down an office set looking busy.

I met a nice man named Kurt (aka EZ), an aspiring filmmaker, who I was privileged to commission as my personal cinematographer for the day.

OK, where do I start?
Perhaps by asking: Why is it that every writer who takes on an Extra gig feels the need to tell the world about it? Maybe they think they’re telling us something we don’t already know? (Hello, HBO series on the subject?!)

In Orit’s case, however, she evidentally wants to change professions to become an actor & hence, feels the need to document the transition. But wait, she wants to remain a writer too. That’s okay, hyphenates proliferate everywhere.

Next subject—Orit as on-camera talent: her humor aside, she appears to be too self-conscious; too narcissistic for mere Extra work. The other background folks are content reading their books while off-camera; she has to continually document. If I were the Extras Coordinator, I’d say she was a bit insubordinate.

But we all know it’s not her intent to stay an Extra. So, how does she rate as an aspiring principal talent or, ideally, lead actress?

Personality: Maybe a little too overbearing but that’s not undoable.
Appearance: Eyes a little too close set; tight-shots could be a problem (creating a cross-eyed feel). Skin is terrific; nice lips. Hair needs to be completely updated with something lighter, bouncier. Nice figure, but the proverbial “should lose a few lbs.” would be in order.

Acting: You’re doing the right thing girl: going to acting classes!

Looking forward to seeing your headshot submitted to us on the next project we cast for your “type” (along w/all the other Israeli-named actors in L.A.!)

She reminds me of a mix of Alicia Keys and Jada Pinkett Smith or an inter-racial Julia Louise Dreyfuss. She should be prepared to be typed cast as ethnic (black/Hispanic/inter-racial/Middle eastern etc.)
Her performance was a bit raw-too aware of the camera.
Voice nice but a bit whiny. More acting classes won’t hurt.
