The Jewish Journal announces iPhone/Android apps
The world of Jewish news is now available for both the iPhone and Android.
These new smartphone apps build on the JewishJournal mobile platform launched late last year with the world’s first Jewish news app built specially for Apple’s iPad. Today, JewishJournal is the number one downloaded Jewish news app for the iPad. The new smartphone apps offer the same cutting-edge local, national and global news updates throughout the 24-hour news cycle, along with an easy-to-navigate interactive experience.
The release of the smartphone apps makes The Jewish Journal the first Jewish news organization in the world to create purpose-built apps for all leading mobile platforms.
“Our users need to stay informed everywhere, at all times,” The Journal’s Publisher and Editor-in-Chief Rob Eshman said. “These apps enable instant news and instant connection wherever you are.”
The app features sections covering Hollywood, Opinion, Food, Culture, Health, Religion, Business, Family, Lifestyle, Sci-Tech and Travel, among others.
Each section highlights fresh, up-to-the-minute commentary and videos drawn from more than 50 branded blogs published by jewishjournal.com, including Hollywood Jew, Rosner’s Domain, The God Blog, Nice Jewish Doctor and Keeping the Faith.
A new interactive feature, Schmooze News, allows app users to submit their own news tips and photos to JewishJournal.
“Mobile devices are perfect for people who want to keep in touch with their news and their community, wherever they are,” said David Suissa, president of TRIBE Media Corp., publisher of The Jewish Journal. “Now you can download the Jewish world.”
A soon-to-be-released updated version of the iPad app will offer new social networking features and geo-location functions, said The Journal’s Web and Multimedia Director Jay Firestone, who is developing Version 2.0 of the app with San Jose-based Whiz Technologies.
TRIBE Media Corp., a Los Angeles-based nonprofit, publishes The Jewish Journal, the only Jewish newspaper serving the 600,000-strong Jewish community of Los Angeles, as well as jewishjournal.com, the largest Jewish news Web site in North America. TRIBE Magazine, its monthly sister publication, is a Jewish lifestyle magazine serving Malibu, Conejo, Simi and San Fernando Valley.
