We love a parade, and none beats Pasadena's Tournament of Roses. For those who believe in sleeping in on New Year's morning, we recommend heading down post-show for their Showcase of Floats. Parked along Sierra Madre and Washington boulevards are the floral wonders, available for an up-close-and-personal view. Volunteers are on hand to answer questions, and a movie explaining how the floats are constructed screens at no charge at an adjacent auditorium. Lines can be long, so buying tickets in advance is always a good idea. $7 (per person). Jan. 1, 1-4 p.m. Jan. 2, 7-9 .m. (seniors and the mobility impaired), 9 a.m.-4 p.m. (general). Park closes at 5 p.m.

Also screening with the montage will be Bass and his wife Elaine's Oscar-winning short documentary, "Why Man Creates."
