Humanitarian Snapshot: Dr. Alon Tal

http://www.jewishjournal.com/ israel/article/humanitarian_snapshot_dr_alon_tal_20100510/

Dr. Alon Tal, 2005 recipient of The Charles Bronfman Prize, is dedicated to challenging and reshaping Israel’s environmental policies. From his trailblazing advocacy work, to founding the Arava Institute for Environmental Studies, to his work on desertification, Tal has established Israel as a model in environmentalism.
What are you focused on today?

Using award money from The Prize, I created the Tal Fund, which provides strategic investments and grants for grassroots environmental activism in Israel. We seek out and support creative and effective organizations, activists, and initiatives that are addressing the country’s key ecological challenges.
How have your Jewish values informed your work?

I believe the world was created with imperfections so that humans can have the privilege of being partners with the Almighty in the act of creation.  It’s not just about preservation, but working and protecting our “Garden of Eden.”
